RELATED: Warsim: The Realm of Aslona is the Perfect Kingdom Simulator for Fantasy Lovers Now more than ever, Myst is built to immerse players in the beautiful vistas and tantalizing secrets its island holds. There are even some nice conveniences, too, like the ability to teleport or randomize puzzles in a playthrough. Myst has been reimagined for VR and flatscreen displays and features an array of new visuals, sounds and interactions. As some Occulus Quest players already had the chance to experience last year, the remake allows players to fully traverse the gorgeously rendered game with plenty to align with contemporary titles. Without Myst, there wouldn't be The Last of Us or Resident Evil. However, its most profound contribution is that it's in part responsible for the atmospheric and cinematic experiences we take for granted in AAA games today. Beyond that, the title offered a then-unseen seamless gameplay experience, balancing beautiful scenes with brain-busting puzzles. Myst opened the door for games like The Witness, The Talos Principle, Portal and We Were Here, to name a few among the countless. It influenced the industry as a whole and left executives baffled by its success. Myst has been instrumental in shaping video games, turning something referred to as an elaborate PowerPoint into a video game.
